- SYNCANDI is to be set in a post cyberpunk/post human world.
- Learned the backstory of cyberpunk via the writings of Philip K. Dick, William Gibson, Neal Stephenson’s Snow Crash and Donna Haraway’s Cyborg Manifesto.
- Consumed a long list of post human related Japanese anime and manga including the Ghost in the Shell collection.
- Hung out with robotics engineers and android scientists in Japan, researching leading edge robotics and AI.
- Interviewed anthropologists and specialising in robotics.
- Wrote and produced two feature length radio documentaries for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation on post humanity.
- Made a commissioned video art work featuring two androids created by Professor Hiroshi Ishiguro from Intelligent Robotics Laboratory, Kyoto.
- Studied Japanese and Worldwide fandom through field work and essays.
- Changed the premise for the SYNCANDI world technology from machines to synthetic biology.
- Wrote a ‘generic’ feature length screenplay.
- Designed 3D characters and costumes using DAZ.
- Composed a collection of songs based on scenes from the SYNCANDI treatment performed by a virtual character who sings with a synthesised voice.
- Wrote a series of journal entries based on the premise that they are written by the synthetic human nurse Ikkyu. The journal is intended to help allow readers to understand and connect with Ikkyu’s emotional and psychological development as she comes to terms with her new life and experiences.
